Adopting a Developer-first Approach to Security

The expansion of the cybersecurity landscape has raised a demand for a skilled workforce, which can secure today's systems, networks, and data against cyber-attacks. To secure the business without slowing it down, For CISOs and Digital Leaders must change their security practices and adopt a DevOps-first approach. With this approach, CISOs can evaluate their security needs better and resolve them on time in the development cycle.

Anoop Mathur, Founder - CORE Media, started the conversation by talking about why security has taken a center-stage in every organizaition’s technology strategy. The discussion with Vishal Khare, Regional Vice President (India Subcontinent), SNYK and Shagun Beniwal, Security Specialist – TFC member - Amazon Web Services (AWS), revolved around the importance of implementing security-focused initiatives that can drive performance, continuous improvement, and innovation in the organization.

The key points highlighted by the CISOs and digital leaders attending the discussion were as follows:-

  1. Shifting to a developer-first security mindset is the need of the hour to stay ahead of the constantly evolving threat landscape, as most organizations have realized that it's prudent to have security integrated into the development cycle from the beginning than afterward.
  2. Organizations are aware of the expansion of Open source ecosystems.Open source security is the risks and vulnerabilities that come with third-party software, along with the tools and processes taken to secure open source software. Thus, prirotizing these vulnerabilities and taking steps to proactively enhance security on Open souce is critical.
  3. The complex role of a developer needs to be simplified by making security tools available for development, hence empowering the developer community.
